A prelude to fall
This is the first issue of a newsletter I wanted to start in January 2020 but got cold feet! Here it is nine months later because someone shared a valuable lesson they learned on Twitter and it was this: get out of your head. So I’m getting out of my head and just doing the thing. Here’s the thing: a newsletter where I share small joys because while we could always use them, we need them now more than ever.
Street Food: Asia
Not being able to travel didn’t hit me hard until now as the summer recedes and I’m mourning all the things I didn’t get to do this year. So I’ve been getting my travel fix in other ways, like re-watching episodes of Netflix’s Street Food: Asia because it’s all about one of my favourite things about traveling: eating. One of the ways I learn best is by eating – about people, cultures and stories. I started with the Osaka episode and cried in the first five minutes (if you’ve seen it, you’ll know why). And even though this is a newsletter about joy, there is hope in that particular story!
Peace of a puzzle
I made the banana bread and did all the other collective pandemic things we all did during lockdown, but I never purchased a puzzle. Rifle Paper & Co. just released a collection of jigsaw puzzles and I thought, this is it – it’s time for me to buy my first puzzle. I like them all but I especially like the City Maps Jigsaw Puzzle.
Illustrator: Noor Sofi
I recently discovered Noor Sofi’s illustrations whose photos have this dreamy, fairy tale-ish quality that I love. She just signed with a literary agent and I’m hoping that means children’s books or graphic novels or even a future animated film.
Act Your Age, Eve Brown
If I’ve ever talked to you to about romance novels, you’ll know how much I love Talia Hibbert and her Brown Sisters series. They’re my favourite kind of romantic, full of banter, laugh-out-loud, OMG she didn’t type of books. The author just announced the third book in the series, Act Your Age, Eve Brown and I am so excited. If you haven’t read Talia Hibbert, start with Get a Life, Chloe Brown and get ready to LOL your way from start to finish.
